Be on trend with heavenly brows for 2014

How important are your eyebrows? The answer is obvious looking at this picture of Katy Perry!

So what do our brows do for us? They draw attention to our eyes, making them appear larger, while framing them perfectly. They can balance the features and give expression to the face.

After discovering this shocking picture of Katy Perry it got me thinking about my brows I have been neglecting for some time. So with the new year upon us I thought it was time to revamp my sparsest redundant brows.

Brows are in for 2014, down the runways at New York Fashion Week designers Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors to name a few rocked the natural brows, bushy, wild and slightly groomed. A come back of Brooke Shields boyish unkempt look of the 1980’s but with an edge, a perfect example is Cara Delevingne.

Or natural with a more dramatic arch like Rita Ora or Megan Fox, More to my liking it’s feminine and seductive.

Now let’s focus on shaping your brows with make-up tips to evoke the Megan Fox brows in you! You will need the following tools:

  1. Spooly brush or disposal mascara wand (Mac Brush 204)
  2. Sharpened brow pencil in your shade (Mac Retractable Brow Pencil)
  3. Clear setting Gel (Mac Brow Set)

Now let’s do this together! I found a fab picture on Instagram of a 4 step simple demo to achieve those trendy naturally arched brows.

Step 1. Brush your eyebrows into shape with the spooly brush.

Step 2. Draw the desired shape with sharpened brow pencil at the bottom of the brow.

Step 3. Draw in the shape at the top of the brow.

Step 4. Fill the brow with the brow pencil and use the spooly brush in upward strokes’ to give a more natural slightly bushy look and to blend.

See you out there ladies with those fearless brows! I’ll know who you are.

Halloween 2013 – Sexy Gothic Vampire makeup

Halloween is upon us and we’d like to ensure you are prepared for the big night! Follow these steps to become a Sexy Gothic Vampire!

Step 1 – Moisturize and prime the skin, and apply facial primer such as MAC Prep & prime for long-lasting makeup.

Step 2 – Use a foundation shade that is two or three shades lighter than your natural tone, or even better mix some clown white face paint to whiten up the skin.

Step 3 – Using a matte gray toned eye shadow and a contouring brush, shade the hollows of the cheeks and the sides of the forehead and the jaw line for a chiseled effect. The grey will give a more vampire look.

Step 4 – Using a dark paint-pot like Blackground by MAC and a fluffy eye shadow brush, buff the color all over the lid feathering it upwards and outwards keeping it very dark around the eyelashes. Add a matte black eye shadow like MAC carbon all over the previous areas you used the dark Paint-pot to further deepen the sockets.

Step 5 – Line the inner rim of the eye with red eyeliner to give a bloodshot effect. You can also add red eye shadow on the lower lash-line to further give this effect of bloodshot eyes. Apply lots of mascara, and if you like, false lashes.

Step 6 – To further define the eyes, fill in the brows to make them look slightly darker than normal with a dark brown eye shadow and a slanted brow brush.

Step 7 – With a very thin eyeliner brush, and some dark blue grey gel liner or eye shadow, lightly draw veins in and around the eye area and also down the neck area for scarier look.

Step 8 – Line the lips with dark red liner like Currant by Mac and fill in the entire lips with your favorite dark burgundy red lipstick. To contour the lips, use a black eyeliner pencil and fill in only the outer corners of the lips and feather it out and blend it with the red lipstick for a dark gothic look.

Step 9 – Set the skin with a light dusting of loose powder for a long-lasting finish.

Step 10 – Use cosmetic grade special effects blood and apply it with a q-tip strategically around the lips, apply your fangs and your ready to suck some blood!

Happy Halloween!

Get The Look- Anne V From Harpers Bazaar Arabia

Kate Goodwin, CEO & Founder of ILLUMIN8 Media Make-Up Studio did Anne V for Harpers Bazaar Arabia’s cover shoot this month. Get this celebrity look from our Celebrity Make-Up Artist.

Anne V is a super model so let’s be fair, didn’t need to worry too much as she is HOT! Can’t really go wrong. This shoot was so much fun with an amazing team, and it shows, as Anne V rocked the look and the outfit. A little bit of colour goes a long way this season. Stick to semi-matte to dewy skin for a fresh base, and enjoy a plethora of bright summer colours, especially hot for lips this season.

I kept her skin clean, using the MAC strobe cream and Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser in Bare. Her skin was amazing so I only needed a little touch of my ever-faithful Secret Camouflage by Laura Mercier in SC-3. Her eyes used gold and neutral tones, which worked beautiful for her complexion. Three products for summer dew

Dewy cheeks, radiant skin and sun kissed face are one of the most natural looks to sport this summer. Here are our best buys to achieve this look without any fuss.

 Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Illuminating

This is a life-saving product. The moisturiser glides on to the skin, without any caky-ness. The products have minute iridescent particles that hit the light and provide a beautiful glow. This one is perfect for summer as it contains SPF 20. With the slight use of Laura Mercier’s Translucent Setting Powder on your T-Zone, the look can be perfected for eveningwear as well.

Benefit Fine One One Blush

This blush has such gorgeous pigments to create the perfect rosy look for day or a night out. It gradients in three colours; pink champagne, sheer watermelon and soft coral creating the perfect three-dimensional blusher effect. To top of the perfect skin for this summer, check out the next one!

Guerlain’s Terracotta 4 season’s bronzer

The four shades of bronze ensure that you don’t get an awful orange cheekbone. This bronzer is perfect for some serious contouring, but works well to create a sun kissed look. Apply a light handed application on your forehead, chin, hollow of your cheeks and nose with a stippling brush for a well blended look.

While we believe in the philosophy of buying high quality products to minimise skin damage, we also understand, on the other end of that argument is affordability. Worry not; here is our guide to looking front cover hot with these drugstore dupes for Kendall’s look.

Pro Tip: Always invest in a high-end primer. Primers act as a barrier between your skin and your makeup. Even if your makeup is not of the best quality, it will not infiltrate the skin with impurities causing breakouts or other concerns.

Get that look- Kendall Jenner

Blog kendall Kate Goodwin, the Founder and CEO of Illumin8 Media Makeup Studio had a blast on her recent trip to LA for a shoot with Harpers Bazaar Arabia. She got to work with the bubbly and cute Kendall Jenner and a fabulous team. Here she explains about the pigments and products she chose to create Kendall’s look for the thematic monochrome shoot.

KG “Kendall is only 17 so she has beautiful young skin with hardly any spots or pigmentation. I love when I get to work on fresh faces as you don’t need to use a lot of make up which is very cam-friendly. As a make-up artist, it is important to use products sparingly to create a mod-chic look. In Kendall’s case, we wanted to make her look mature and more sophisticated so I chose a more sultry look, enhancing her eyes with a clean base and spring-time contour.”
